I believe that genre is a construct, not a prison.
If I had to say I had a “genre” that I write in, it would be Adventure Fiction. That can take many forms. For me it’s all about action and emotion. Tomahawk Incident is a fade-to-black story because romance isn’t the central theme of the story. In A Season of Guns and Dust, everything rotates around the romance between Adina and Asher. It’s spicy because the passion and intensity between them drives everything else. Different stories have different hearts. I write to the heart of the story, not an arbitrary definition someone’s made up. So, some of my writing is sexy and explicit, some is chaste. But there will always be action and powerful emotion because when I write, I want to feel. And I want my audience to feel too.
